Journal for week of 4/6/20

Q1
There are some days where my neighborhood is practically empty, only sometimes will a family walk by or someone would be walking their dog. There are some days, like this past Friday, April 4th, where it was warm and it seemed like everyone went outside. I saw people I never even recognized before walking around the neighborhood. It’s like everyone emerged from their homes worried that they need to go outside for as long as possible or they would have wasted a day. You could see the happiness in the children’s eyes when they rode their scooter or bike down the sidewalk, happy to be outside when it’s warm. In the mornings, you could hear all the construction workers from the block because everyone else is so quiet. Those days are the days where less people go out. When you hear the birds chirping rather than the power tools, then you know it’s gonna be a good day for a walk.

There’s 2 things that stood out to me that I am starting to notice. One of them being the way car companies or dealerships advertise their cars. For example, Cadillac is trying to show how comfortable and convenient it is to own one of their cars. That if you need anything, just contact your local dealership and they’ll do everything possible to help you and your car. For example, if you need your car serviced, someone from your dealership will come in a loaner car, drop it off to your house and take your car to bring it to the shop. You don’t need to leave the comfort of your own home. Another thing that I’m starting to notice is the way we interact with others. Whenever I go to the store, there are some people following guidelines and listening to whatever important is said. Then there are a few people that aren’t doing their best job at using their listening skills. They don’t follow the tape on the floor that helps keep distance between shoppers during check out. Some people constantly get too close to others while at the deli or meat counters and seem to not care for the safety of others.

As I was scrolling through Instagram this morning, I saw someone post a Martin Luther King Jr. quote that said “We may have all come on different ships, but were in the same boat now”. We may all be different, yet because of this pandemic, we’re all being affected together and ‘in the same boat’.
